About Us

At Kearney & MacNally Opticians, we are fully committed to providing all our patients with a highly professional standard of eyecare. Our personal approach starts from when you make your first contact with us, to the eye exam and dispense, to when you collect your new spectacles and then your after service.

Donal MacNally Opticians first opened its doors on Mary Street in the 1960s, with the Nutgrove branch opening in 1986, shortly after the opening of Nutgrove Shopping Centre.

In May 2018, resident optometrist Breda Kearney, along with her husband Brian took over the reigns in Donal MacNally Opticians in Nutgrove and now run it as their own practice, now Kearney & MacNally Opticians. As a husband & wife team, they strive to continue to provide the local community of Rathfarnham with a personal approach along with excellent eyecare.

Meet Our Team

Breda Kearney FAOI

Optometrist/Owner

A graduate of DIT, Breda worked in the Donal MacNally group since 2007. She enjoys building a trusting relationship with her patients, along with quality eyecare. Breda gets great satisfaction every day knowing that her job helps people see better. She worked in a mobile optometrist role, gaining invaluable experience, before coming to Nutgrove full time in 2016. In May 2018 Breda, along with her husband Brian, were delighted to acquire the Nutgrove branch of which they are now practice owners, Kearney & MacNally Opticians.

Brian Kearney

Owner

Brian studied Sports Management in UCD, and applies his management skills to the accounting & marketing end of the practice. As a Terenure local, he aims to develop our role further in the local community as a trusted primary care practice.

Teri O’Callaghan FBDO

Dispensing Optician

A graduate of ABDO, Teri has over 15 years experience in optics. As a Rathfarnham local, she has been key in building the Nutgrove practice as a trusted first stop for eyecare. Teri has excellent experience as a dispensing optician and her huge knowledge puts patients at ease with their frame and lens selections, knowing they have been advised by an expert.

Alex Murphy

Lab Technician

Alex is a busy member of our team behind the scenes: glazing, assembling and repairing spectacles. His attention to detail ensures high standards are met and spectacles are ready on time. With over four years experience in optics, Alex is a very versatile member of our team!

Carmel O’Farrell

FAOI

A graduate of DIT and with over 8 years experience with the Donal MacNally Opticians, Carmel is an extremely dedicated optometrist, her professionalism puts all our patients at ease. She has a particular interest in contact lenses and paediatrics. She also supervises Optometry students at DIT. Her clinical excellence makes her an asset to our practice at Kearney & Macnally Opticians.

Dan Dowling

Senior Optical Assistant

With almost 10 years experience in the optical industry, Dan is an invaluable member of our practice. His excellent customer service means he never forgets a name! Add this to his warm & friendly nature, and his ability to find a frame to suit everyone, making him a favourite among our patients.
